Our immersion textiles and craft tours are all about getting to know the locals with minimal moving of hotels and locations so that you can relax and immerse yourself in the local culture.
DAY 1: Today is arrival day. Narelle will collect you from the airport - then all you have to do is unpack and relax.
DAY 2: Today is all about immersing ourselves in the culture of Chiang Mai. We explore some the cities most iconic temples, sites and markets.
DAY 3: We spend the day experimenting with local natural dyes and learning shibori techniques. We also learn the ancient craft of Thai paper cutting (Tung).
DAY 4: We spend the day taking a workshop in traditional Hmong embroidery. Tonight, we take a tour of the local food markets and try our hand at traditional Thai cooking with a local chef.
DAY 5: Today we travel to the outskirts of the city where we spend the day with one of Chiang Mai’s leading batik and quilting artists. We lean the batik techniques of both canting and stamping
DAYs 6 and 7: Over the next 2 days we will learn the techniques involved in creating sashiko embroidery including how to make patterns. We will also learn the ancient Thai craft of palm leaf weaving from a local master weaver.
DAY 8: This morning we take a class in making the iconic Thai paper lanterns and spend time exploring some of the cities textile shops.
DAY 9: Your tour finishes this morning after breakfast and your transfer to the airport.
