As Cambodia emerges from lockdown it has one the highest vaccination rates in Asia,  so it is the perfect place to kick off your overseas travel again.  Your tour host Narelle will be living on-site to ensure that every measure is taken to make your holiday a safe and inspirational time.

Spend 12 wonderful days of immersing yourself in the craft, culture, shopping and textiles of Cambodia. Join our safe "creative travel bubble' with only a handful of other textile and craft enthusiast (Max 10 people). 

Unpack and Relax - No hotel hopping - no large groups or coach travel
This exclusive and unique textiles and craft live-in retreat is designed to provide you with a holiday that will allow you to unpack and relax, to be inspired by the local culture, its textiles and crafts and get creative and to really get to know your destination and what makes makes the community tick.

GET CREATIVE
Try your hand at creative Art Journaling & receive a "Creative Kit"
  of supplies for capturing your holiday experiences & recording your textile experiments & inspirations. Gather plant materials and brew up natural dye vats, including hot dyes & indigo. Try your hand a solar dyeing and bundle dyeing. Learn some Shibori techniques and try your hand colour dips and over dyeing. Get hands-on with Cambodia's unique golden silk when you make a silk tassel. Learn the ancient craft of palm weaving and make a traditional woven box. Visit a lotus farm where you will learn how to make lotus paper, lotus thread and make your own set of meditation beads. Experiment with different mark making techniques on fabric including block printing, Hapa Zome and creating rubbings and marks using everyday objects. Spend time trying out some slow stitching techniques and pulling all of our textile experiments together for a final day project. Take a sketching lesson under the trees at Angkor with a local artist.

GET TO KNOW THE LOCALS
Learn some basic Khmer phrases and words from the locals including the 7 colours of Cambodia and how they are used in Cambodian life.  Take a "slow" tour of the awe inspiring temples of Angkor, with a private local guide. Visit a local silk farm and see how they are reviving the unique Golden Silk of Cambodia and traditional ikat methods.  Visit a natural dyes forest project set up to reintroduce natural dye plants back into Khmer textiles.  Visit a local lotus farm and try some lotus tea and lotus cake and try your hand at folding a lotus flower.  Visit a local village pagoda and spend time chatting with the monks learning about their lives and Buddhist practices in Cambodia.  Take a cooking class with a local chef and learn about Khmer food.

Day 1: Today is arrival day.  We will collect you from the airport.  Tonight we get together to celebrate the start of our Cambodian adventure.
Day 2:  Today we take a private tour of the magnificent Banteay Srie temples, have a lakeside picnic breakfast, visit a local silk farm and make a silk tassel from golden silk, visit a natural dyes forest.
Day 3: Today we learn about the cuisine of Cambodia from a local chef.
Days 4 & 5 Over these 2 days we learn about the colours of Cambodia and will brew up 3 vats of natural dyes including indigo and try our hand at shibori techniques and experiment with over-dyeing. We also make a visit to another of the Angkor temples.
Day 6: This morning we explore Angkor Wat and take a sketching workshop under the trees of the temple grounds.  
Day 7: Today we try our hand at traditional palm weaving and make a visit to a local Buddhist temple.
Day 8: Today is all about lotus! We learn how to make lotus paper and thread, how to fold a lotus flower and make our own lotus seed Mala.
Day 9: Today is all about experimenting with surface design. We spend our day trying out a host of different techniques, from bundle dyeing to mark making.
Day 10: Today we gather together to try out some slow stitch techniques and work on a personal project bringing all of the inspiration and textile experiments we've done over the last 10 days together.
Day 11: Today is a free day to shop in the local markets or relax by the pool.  
Day 12:  Your retreat finishes today after breakfast.
