GET CREATIVE
Gather plant materials and brew up natural dye vats. Try your hand at bundle dyeing. Learn some Shibori techniques. Learn the ancient craft of palm weaving and make a traditional woven box. Visit a lotus farm where you will learn how to make lotus thread and make your own set of meditation beads. Experiment with Hapa Zome and cyanotype printing. Spend time trying out some slow stitching techniques. Take a sketching lesson under the trees at Angkor with a local artist.
GET TO KNOW THE LOCALS
Learn some basic Khmer phrases and words from the locals including the 7 colours of Cambodia and how they are used in Cambodian life. Take a "slow" tour of the awe inspiring temples of Angkor, with a private local guide. Take a walk through a forest with a local monk and learn about the local plants and spend time chatting with him to learn about the life of a monk. Visit a local lotus farm and try some lotus tea and lotus cake and try your hand at folding a lotus flower. Take a cooking class with a local chef and learn about Khmer food. Visit a local art gallery and the local markets.

Day 1: Today is arrival day. We will collect you from the airport. Tonight we get together to celebrate the start of our Cambodian adventure and talk about ways of capturing your time at the retreat in a creative journal.
Day 2: Today we learn about the cuisine of Cambodia from a local chef and spend an afternoon with a Buddhist monk learning about the life of a monk and taking a walk through the temple forest to learn all about the local plants and herbs and how they are used.
Day 3: Today we learn about the Golden silk of Cambodia and get hands on with it when we make a silk tassel. We stop in at a wicker weaving village and then get together in the garden to try some slow stitching.
Day 4: Today we explore Ankgor Was, the city of Angkor Thom and the Bayon temple.
Day 5: Today we explore some more temples and take a sketching lesson under the shade of the temple trees.
Days 6 & 7: Over these 2 days we learn about the colours of Cambodia and will brew up 3 vats of natural dyes ind try our hand at shibori techniques and experiment with over-dyeing.
Day 8: Today we try our hand at some simple bundle dyes, the Happa Zone technique and weather permitting cyantype printing
Day 9: Today we try our hand at traditional palm weaving and learn how to make lotus thread, how to fold a lotus flower and make our own lotus seed Mala.
Day 10: This morning we get together to pull all of our experiments together either in your creatives Journals or incorporate some into your slow stitch projects.
Day 11: Your retreat finishes today after breakfast.
