Join this new and exciting tour exploring the textiles and craft of amazing Thailand. Be enchanted by the beauty of its temples, the warmth of the people and the vibrancy of its textiles. From the markets of bustling Bangkok to the remote Thai Yuan weaving villages along the Laos border and the ancient cities of Sukhothai and Chiang Mai you'll experience a different side of Thailand to the tourist brochures. Meet the local women and see how they create the beautiful textiles of Thailand.
Bangkok: Explore this amazing city from the Royal Palace and the Textiles Museum, to Jim Thompsons House and Baan Krua, a Cham Muslim village. Theres a full day to explore the fabric lanes of China town and the Pahurat markets.
Uttaradit: We spend time exploring the Yuan weaving villages in the area and spend a night with a weaving family to learn about how they use fermented mud to produce their beautiful textiles. We visit a collection of 200 year old antique textiles and learn about the weaving and dyeing methods of the beautiful LapLae textiles.
Sukhothai: We make a visit to the Sathorn Golden Textile Museum and the ancient temples and ruins in the Sri Satchanalai and Sukhothai Historical reserves. We stop in at the Lampang Elephant conservation park on our journey north.
Chaing Mai: There's plenty of time to explore the famous Night market of Chiang Mai and the antique tribal textiles around Hmong lane. We visit the famous Doi Su Tep temple, the Lanna Folk Museum to check out their great textiles exhibitions and visit Studio Naenna to learn about traditional dyeing and weaving methods of Thai textiles. We also spend an afternoon checking out the craft workshops of Sankampaeng. For those wanting a unique experience in Karen tribal weaving there's the opportunity to take an optional 2 day live-in weaving class in the mountains outside of Chiang Mai.
