Packed with lots of hands on textiles, craft and cultural experiences including: Conical hat making, lacquerware, calligraphy, natural dyes, Hmong batik, Dao traditional embroidery, silk lantern making and traditional Vietnamese cooking. Travelling from the ancient city of Hanoi to the mountains of the north where we spend 3 nights living with the local in a traditional tribal village and then down to the World Heritage town of Hoi An. GalleryTour ItineraryDAY 1: Today is arrival day. Your day is free to explore the local neighbourhood
DAY 2: Today is all about immersing ourselves in the culture and history of Hanoi. We explore some the cities most iconic sites and museums and explore the 1000 year old shopping district of the Old Quarter.. DAY 3: We spend the day immersing ourselves in 2 of Vietnam's most traditional crafts with hands-on classes in lacquerware and Non La (conical hat making). DAY 4: Today we leave the city and drive into the mountains to the area around Sapa. We check-in to our tranquil village homestay and begin our immersion into the culture and craft of the Red Dao and Black Hmong with a lesson in Dao embroidery. * Note accommodation over the next 3 nights is in a purpose built clean and comfortable homestay in basic shared rooms with on-floor bedding with shared western bathroom facilities - Click here for details on the homestay DAY 5: This morning we travel to one of the regions remote tribal markets where we meet tribal people from the Dao, Blue Hmong, HanHi and Giay groups all dressed in traditional costume. We also call in to visit the Sapa town market which is a treasure trove of traditional costumes, embroideries, hemp and batik fabrics. DAY 6: Today we immerse ourselves in the traditional textiles of the village. We learn about the jungle natural dyes and indigo and try our hand at traditional Hmong batik. DAY 7: This morning we take a lesson in Dao embroidery before we bid our hosts farewell and travel back down the freeway to Hanoi where we catch a short flight down to Hoi An. DAY 8: This morning we take walking tour of the historical area and fabric markets, ending our morning with a hands-on class in silk lantern making. DAY 9: This morning we take a visit to a local silk farm and learn about Vietnams ancient silk cultivation and weaving traditions before returning to the town for a hands-on class in traditional calligraphy. DAY 10: This morning we meet up with a local chef and make a visit to the local produce market before taking a cruise up the river to a traditional farm where we take a hands on class in traditional Vietnamese cooking. DAY 11: Your day is free to explore Hoi An. DAY 12: Your tour finishes today after breakfast. |
