Starting in Siem Reap, the gateway to the awe inspiring temples of Angkor you'll discover an emerging textiles scene where natural dyes & traditional weaving methods are being revived. You'll visit a unique forest project set up to revive the natural vegetation needed to make traditional dyes, take a lesson in water hyacinth weaving and visit a unique Khmer silk farm. You'll travel to Luang Prabang with its historical temples, textile galleries and amazing craft markets, where you'll take part in lessons with the locals including Hmong embroidery, silk weaving and natural dyes.
Day 1: Today is arrival day. Your time is free to explore the neighbourhood or relax after your flight.
Day 2: Today we'll eplore the temples of Angkor including the awe inspiring Angkor Wat, the magical Bayon, and the jungle temple of Ta Phrom .
Day 3: This morning we visit a weaving and natural dyes project before visiting the beautiful pink sandstone temple of Banteay Srei. We spend the afternoon visiting a Cambodian silk farm.
Day 4: This morning we take water hyacinth weaving class on a floating workshop on famous Tonlesap Lake. This afternoon we call into the Mekong Quilts projects and the Artisans d'Angkor crafts centre leaving plenty of time to explore the markets and shopping of Siem Reap town.
Day 5: Your morning is free before we transfer to the airport to take a short flight to the charming UNESCO World Heritage town of Luang Prabang, Laos. Our charming French villa located in the centre of the historical part of town is a great base for exploring the shops and amazing nightly craft markets.
Day 6: This morning we take a tour of some of the most colourful temples of the town and visit the Traditional Arts & Ethnology Centre to learn about Lao's ethnic diversity. We spend the afternoon exploring local textile villages.
Day 7: Today is a fun day learning the art of Laos silk weaving and natural dyes with our own individual tutors in a workshop overlooking the Mekong.
Day 8: Today we learn about the art of Hmong reverse applique in a fun morning with some of the local women of Luang Prabang. The afternoon is free to explore the shops, markets and colourful laneways of the town.
Day 9: Today there is an opportunity to take a class in Akha back strap weaving, take a cooking class or perhaps try your hand at Hmong batik or bamboo weaving.
Day 10: Our tour finishes today after our transfer to the airport for the flight home.
