11 day small group textiles and craft immersion tour Luang Prabang/Nong Khiaw $3,650 per person twin share Unpack and relax and join us on this fantastic 11 day tour, jammed pack with lots and lots of hands on activities and workshops. From natural dyes, to silk and cotton weaving, traditional embroidery, bamboo weaving, pottery, batik and paper making you'll come home relaxed and inspired by the beauty of World Heritage Luang Prabang. You'll learn how to make traditional Loa noodles and take a cooking class in a Heritage home. You'll get to experience village life when we spend 2 days in a traditional Tai Lue cotton weaving village learning about how they create their beautiful and unique cotton textiles - from picking cotton to spinning, dyeing and weaving this is a fantastic opportunity to experience village life. This tour has been designed to fit in with Singapore Airlines flights into Laos from Australia.
Tour Itinerary
Day 1 Narelle will collect you from the airport when you arrive then all you have to do is unpack and relax. Tonight we will get together to toast to the next 11 days of textiles and all things Lao. We will get our first look at the nightly craft markets and the plethora of beautiful textiles and craft on offer. Day 2 Today is all about immersing ourselves in the culture of Luang Prabang. This morning we explore some the cities most iconic temples and sites, including the Royal Palace. This afternoon we hunt for bargains in a textiles cooperative market and bamboo weaving village. Days 3 & 4: Over these 2 days we will try our hands at a number of traditional Lao crafts. Including silk weaving, brewing natural dyes and the intricate art of Hmong batik to bamboo weaving. Day 5: Today is all about crafts. We start our day with a visit to a local paper village and where we will get some hands on experience in the process of making mulberry (Saa) paper. After a lunch of traditional Lao foods we will head back to town where we will take a class in traditional Hmong reverse appliqué. Day 6 :Today is a fun packed day starting with a boat trip on the Mekong to visit a local pottery village, where we spend the morning creating our own pottery creations. After lunch we make a visit to some local waterfalls and the Bear Rescue Centre. Days 7 & 8: Pack an overnight bag for a short trip into the mountains where we spend the next 2 days living in a traditional weaving village and learning about preparing, dyeing and weaving cotton. Day 9: Today is all about exploring Luang Prabangs food culture. This morning we try our hand at making traditional noodles. Later in the day we make a visit to a heritage house and crafts centre in the centre of town, where we learn how to prepare an evening meal of traditional Luang Prabang dishes. Day 10: Today is totally free for you to soak in the atmosphere of beautiful Luang Prabang, Day 11 Your tour ends this morning after breakfast. |
