Visa Information

Visa conditions change regularly. Contact the nearest Embassy or Consulate for the most up to date information.  The visa requirements for your trip vary depending on where you are from and where you are going.  It is important that you check for yourself. There's nothing worse than arriving at an airport and not being allowed into the country.

LAOS VISA

A passport and visa are required. Visas are issued upon arrival in Laos to foreign tourists and business persons at most border crossings. Passport must have at least six months validity remaining, and one blank visa page in order for the visa to be issued.  A Laos TOURIST visa is usually issued for a SINGLE entry within three months from the date of issue for a period of stay not to exceed 30 days. The visa may be extended in Laos for a further 15 days. You will need two passport size photographs and $30 at Wattay Airport, Vientiane; Friendship Bridge, Vientiane; and Luang Prabang Airport. Visas on Arrival are not available at the Chong Mek border crossing.

Foreign tourists are generally admitted to Laos for 15 days with a visa on arrival or for 30 days with a visa issued at a Lao embassy. Foreigners who overstay in Laos risk arrest, and they will be fined $5 for each day upon departure. Travellers should make sure that they complete immigration and customs formalities when they enter Laos. Travellers who enter Laos without completing these formalities may be subject to fine, detention, imprisonment, and/or deportation.

CAMBODIA VISA

Tourist and business visa’s are available on entry for $20US. The Cambodian government has introduced an electronic tourist visa ("e-Visa") facility. If entering Cambodia through Phnom Penh or Siem Reap international airports an application for a tourist visa can be made on-line through the Cambodian Ministry of Foreign Affairs'website. The cost is $20US for the Visa and a $5US application fee. The turnaround appears to be within 2 to 3 days and speeds up the immigration process when arriving in the country. Your passport must have at least four months validity remaining when you arrive in Cambodia; however, all neighbouring countries (Thailand, Vietnam and Laos) require passports to have at least six months validity. Local immigration authorities may deny entry and deport people who do not meet this requirement, even if they intend staying only for a short period.

THAILAND VISA

Australian tourists travelling to Thailand on an Australian passport may currently enter Thailand for up to 30 days without obtaining a visa in advance. This is referred to as a “visa exemption”. A visa is required for longer stays or for travellers intending to work in Thailand. The Thai Immigration Bureau announced revised tourist visa regulations which took effect from 1 October 2006. Australian travellers can enter Thailand for up to 30 days each entry, up to a maximum stay of 90 days. Tourists who reside in Thailand for 90 days must depart Thailand for at least 90 days before they will be permitted to re-enter Thailand, unless they obtain a valid visa entry at a Thai Embassy of Consulate in another country outside Thailand.

Overstaying your visa in Thailand is considered a very serious offence and may result in prolonged arrest and detention. Travellers who overstay entry permits may not be allowed to leave Thailand until a fine is paid. The fine is currently 500 Baht per day, up to a maximum of 20,000 baht. If you can not afford to pay the overstay fine you may be arrested, taken to court, charged with a visa offence, and required to serve a lengthy prison sentence in lieu of the fine. Travellers who have overstayed their visas may be imprisoned, deported and placed on an immigration blacklist to prevent from them returning to Thailand.

VIETNAM VISA

You MUST obtain a visa prior to arrival in Vietnam. Persons attempting to enter Vietnam without a valid visa are generally sent back to their last port of departure by Vietnamese authorities. You should review all visa conditions and carefully note any conditions listed on the immigration stamp which you will receive on arrival. Your passport must have at least six months remaining validity at the time of arrival in Vietnam. If you lose your passport which contains your visa for Vietnam or the visa document issued by Vietnamese authorities, you will need to obtain an exit visa from a Vietnamese immigration office. Vietnamese authorities will not permit you to depart Vietnam until the exit visa is issued. Processing may take up to 4 working days and a fee is payable.
