History Notes

Knowing a little about the history of the country you travel to adds a new dimension to your understanding of your destination and how it has shaped the present day communities.  This is particularly relevant when travelling to places in IndoChina.

The turmoil that war and political unrest have caused over the last 50 years in places like Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam have had an enormous effect on the day to day lives of people living there today. From the atrocities of the Pol Pot era in Cambodia, to secret war of Laos, to the very public and lengthy Vietnam war, each of these countries and their people have lived through decades of misery.

The notes provided here are a synopsis of many different historical view points, however we hope that it gives you a better understanding of where you are going and the people you meet along the way.
